Detailed notes
    - The key external contributory factors relating to the conflict have been the role of major actors and their interests (from colonialism to the control of the Eastern Mediterranean etc.) in the region in other words power politics. The US, Britain, the EU and Soviet Union/Russia played major roles in the conflict in different times. The interests of major powers took/take over the local needs where the peacebuilding efforts rest on the orthodox version of peace which can only bring negative peace. The internal reason has been the competing of two nationalities for their sovereignties in the island. Cyprus conflict which brought the two NATO members Turkey and Greece into the brink of war several times in the Eastern Mediterranean will be analysed from these perspective.
